Are All Plasma Television HDTV?The buzz in the electronics market or among the electronic lovers is plasma. Most of us are very much familiar with the term plasma. However, how much does one know or understand regarding the term plasma? Many just the know that the flat screen TVs are known as the plasma television. Coming to the point, plasma television set is the television whose screen uses the plasma technology. Though the plasma technology was discovered in the 1960's, it has been used in making TV sets only from 1990's. Something about Plasma TV The screen of the plasma TV is made of very minute pieces of bubble-shaped glass. Each piece of glass represents one pixel. When the current passes through the plasma of the screen, the pixels react and cast off ultra violet rays. The pixels will either glow or dim approximately to form the perfect image. A close look at the plasma TV will show the individual pixel cell coloration of red, green and blue bars. One can also see the black ribs which separate them. Plasma TV has the ability to display images that make use of either standard or HDTV format. Plasma TV can also display images from home-recorded videos. Plasma TV can be used as computer monitors too. Brands like Sony, Philips, Panasonic, LG, Pioneer, and Samsung and so on are the most popular in the electronics market. Are All Plasma Television HDTV? All plasma television is not HDTV. The Plasma TV that is capable of displaying the HDTV signals is known as HDTV plasma TV. That is plasma TV has a finite number of pixels, so the signal inputs that have higher resolution should be able to fit in within the pixels of the plasma TV. The plasma television can be classified as an HDTV if it can display 1024x768 pixels. However, some HDTV signal inputs will still have to be scaled down to fit the plasma television pixel field. Life Expectancy of Plasma TV The life expectancy of the plasma television has been calculated as 30,000 hours that is approximately nine years if it working eight hours a day. However, the newer units have longer life expectancy of about 60,000 hours. As the time goes, around 50% of the brightness of the Plasma television comes down. Since the process of losing the brightness is very much gradual, the consumers are totally unaware of it. Overall, a plasma television will deliver beautiful and pleasant viewing. For instance, the plasma TV model VIZIO P50 HDTV with the 50 inch wide screen offers a HDTV display capability at 720 p and 1080i allowing one to enjoy the viewing of high definition TV. The contrast ratio of this model is 10,000:1 and uses the VIZIO Color Vision. The price of this plasma TV is approximately around $1500. |
